How to Schedule Procedures, Surgeries, and Use Specialty-Specific Tools

This article explains how doctors can schedule surgeries, schedule external procedures, and use specialty-specific clinical tools from the Medical Chart in Helix. All actions described here are recorded within the patient’s Medical Chart and Medical History.

🧭 Where to Access Procedures & Specialty Tools

All actions described in this article are accessed from:

  • Medical Chart → Patient Management

🔪 Scheduling a Surgery

▶️ Open the surgery scheduler

  1. Open the patient’s Medical Chart

  2. Go to Patient Management → Schedule Surgery

➕ Add a surgery

  1. Select the required Surgery from the Services list

  2. (Optional) Set a Date

  3. (Optional) Add a Note

  4. Click Submit

  5. Repeat the steps to add additional surgeries if required

🧹 Manage the surgery list (before printing)

  • Remove an entry using the red “–” (Delete) button next to it

  • Click Print to print the current list

🗂️ Where scheduled surgeries are saved

  • Scheduled surgeries appear in the Medical Chart

  • They are stored on the right side under Decisions

🧾 Scheduling External Procedures (CPT-Based)

▶️ Open the procedure screen

  1. Open the Medical Chart

  2. Go to Patient Management → Procedure

➕ Add a procedure

  1. Select the required CPT / Procedure from the drop-down

  2. (Optional) Set a Date

  3. (Optional) Add a Note

  4. Click Submit

  5. Repeat to add additional procedures if needed

🧹 Manage procedures (before printing)

  • Remove a procedure using the red “–” (Delete) button

  • Click Print to print the current list

🗂️ Where procedures are saved

  • Procedures are saved in the Medical Chart

  • They also appear in the Medical History panel

  • Procedures can be reprinted from Medical History

👁️ Specialty-Specific Tools (Ophthalmology)

Certain specialties include additional clinical tools within Patient Management.
The following tools are available for Ophthalmology.

👓 Glasses Prescription

  1. Open Medical Chart → Patient Management → Glasses

  2. Enter the required details in the chart

  3. Clicking Glasses generates a print-ready prescription

  4. Print as required

💧 Dilation

  1. Open Medical Chart → Patient Management → Dilation

  2. Enter the dilation details

  3. Click Submit and/or Print

👁️ Contact Lenses

  1. Open Medical Chart → Patient Management → Contact Lenses

  2. Enter the required prescription details

  3. Click Submit and/or Print

📝 Notes

  • Specialty-specific tools vary by department

  • Scheduled surgeries are stored under Decisions

  • Procedures and specialty outputs are available for reprint from Medical History
