How to set-up Commissions
The Commissions module in Helix allows you to configure staff incentives based on performance. You can set commissions by Role, by User, or by Department, and define whether they’re fixed or target-based (tiered). This helps align compensation with productivity and encourages performance transparency across the clinic.
🌐 Overview
Commissions define how staff earn additional income from the services they deliver.
You can:
-
Apply the same commission to all users under a role or department, or create personalized ones per user.
-
Choose between a fixed percentage/amount or a target-based tiered structure.
-
Decide whether calculations are based on Net or Gross amounts.
💡 Tip: Most clinics use “By User” for flexibility.

📋 How the Three Tabs Differ
| Tab | Purpose |
|---|---|
| By Role | Applies the same commission scheme to all users with that role. |
| By User | Creates custom commission schemes for individual users. (Most common option.) |
| By Department | Applies the same scheme to everyone in that department. |
💡 Tips & Best Practices
- Use By User for flexibility when staff have individual plans.
- Use By Role or By Department only when the same structure applies to all members.
- Keep tier brackets simple and logical — avoid overlapping ranges.
- Decide Net vs. Gross carefully; this affects payroll accuracy.
- For service-specific bonuses (e.g., Botox treatments), select the exact service instead of the full category.
- Review commissions regularly with Accounting to ensure proper ledger mapping.
